Meet Sonia Jones: Austbrokers Comsure Andrea Vogler Women in Business Awardee 2025

Sonia Jones has been a driving force behind MSJ Plumbing since its beginnings, shaping the business into a modern, professional, and customer-focused operation. Her successes and valuable experiences with the business have won her the Austbrokers Comsure Andrea Vogler Women in Business Award at the recently held 2025 Plumbing & Gas Industry Awards.

“I was motivated to pursue a career in the plumbing industry because of my husband's passion for starting his own business. While he had the technical skills, he lacked the necessary administrative expertise. Traditionally, wives often take on these roles, but for me, it was more than a duty—it was my passion. I have always loved office work, from helping clients solve their problems to organising schedules, managing finances, and navigating the legal aspects of running a business. This career choice allowed me to leverage the skills I had developed in my previous government roles and bring my unique approach to our business,” writes Sonia in her nomination form for the award.

With a background in government administration, Sonia brought structure, leadership, and innovation to the company. She has streamlined operations, strengthened client relationships, and introduced new systems that have set the business up for long-term success.

Her leadership extends beyond processes. Sonia mentors her team, fosters a culture of inclusivity and respect, and creates space for staff development and wellbeing. She has also stepped into the spotlight as a speaker, business advocate, and mentor—sharing her story and encouraging more women to step confidently into leadership roles within the plumbing industry.

“I’ve been investing heavily in my own personal development over the past year, particularly around managing my mental wellbeing and building healthier habits. This journey has included working closely with a life coach, which has been incredibly eye-opening. It’s helped me realise just how many people are quietly struggling with mental health, and how powerful it can be to simply have the right tools—and someone willing to listen. I’ve become passionate about encouraging open, honest conversations and sharing the strategies that have made a difference in my life. I genuinely love connecting with people and offering support where I can, even if it’s just by sharing my own experiences,” says Sonia.

Balancing business growth with personal development, Sonia has shown resilience, adaptability, and vision. Her impact on both her business and the broader industry demonstrates her exceptional commitment, innovation, and leadership.
