Determining Wage Rates For First And Second-Year Apprentices

Employer Resources

In accordance with the Plumbing and Fire Sprinklers Award 2020, the relevant wage rate for a first and second-year apprentice will depend on whether the employee has completed year 12 or not.

A first-year apprentice who has completed year 12 will receive a minimum gross hourly rate of $16.13 including the relevant all-purpose allowances. This equates to a weekly rate of $613.11 based on a 38-hour week.

In comparison, a first-year apprentice who has not completed year 12 (and a school-based apprentice) will receive a minimum gross hourly rate of $14.76 including the relevant all-purpose allowances. This equates to a weekly rate of $560.72 based on a 38-hour week.

If an apprentice commences as a school-based apprentice and then completes year 12, they then need to move to the rates that reflect an apprentice who has completed year 12.
