2023-2024 Queensland State Budget Allocated For Social Housing, Training, Employment, and Small Business Support

The 2023-24 Queensland State Budget was handed down on Tuesday 13 June by Treasurer the Hon. Cameron Dick MP. The budget will see a total investment of $1.35 billion in skills, training, employment, and small business support for Queenslanders.

This funding will continue to build on the already significant investment of the Palaszczuk Government over the past two years to deliver quality training and exciting career pathways to meet Queensland’s increasing workforce demands now and into the future, while providing a broad range of assistance to our growing small business sector.  

The Budget will ensure the Government can continue the delivery of its "Good People. Good Jobs. Queensland Workforce Strategy 2022-2032", and this will expand over the next financial year.

In addition, the 2023-24 State Budget also includes the following highlights:

  • A $20.3 billion Big Build capital investment in the 2023-24 State Budget will support the delivery of the state’s biggest transformational projects as well as essential services for Queenslanders.
  • $322 million to build an additional 500 new social housing homes.
  • $249.1 million to retain and upgrade dwellings for social housing.
  • An average $130 million every year from the $2 billion Housing Investment Fund, which will be invested in affordable and social housing outcomes.
  • $118.2 million to build and maintain housing for essential workers in health, education, and emergency services, freeing up regional rental housing.
  • $39 million to double the trades workforce and commit to more good jobs for Queensland’s tradespeople.
  • $23.6 million to enhance QBuild depots to build and maintain more homes across Queensland.
  • The 2023-24 State budget will inject more than $50 million to boost the resources and natural resource sectors.
  • A new $21 million grant program will drive exploration for gas reserves in the Bowen and Galilee Basins.
  • Drought affected producers with primary production leases will also be supported with rent rebates.
  • $86 million is being invested in 2023-24 to renew and revitalise training infrastructure and to deliver key projects such as the expansion of the Great Barrier Reef International Marine College in Cairns and the Eagle Farm Robotics and Advanced Manufacturing Centre at TAFE Eagle Farm campus.
  • $29.7 million over the next three years to replace VET ICT systems. 
  • $4.6 million for the Women in Trade Apprenticeships Mentoring Program over the next two financial years.
  • $1 million has been set aside for Australian Training Works to assist with the development of the Cairns Indigenous Training Centre to provide First Nations people in the Far North with a tailored trade training facility.
  • $5 million for Cyber Security support for small to medium enterprises over two years
  • Financial support to establish the Queensland Indigenous Business Network to provide support and advocacy for the growth of First Nations businesses.
