That’s a Wrap for Unique Trades Based Conference!

On Thursday 6 and Friday 7 September, at the world renowned Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, the plumbing, fire, gas, mechanical and hydraulic trades and professions came together to pull off one of the most unique joint trades based conferences in Australia.

The Trades Industry Conference was proudly presented by seven leading industry associations:

The two-day schedule was jam-packed with informative sessions, Q & A panel discussions, networking opportunities and social functions, including a Spring Racing Gala Dinner and Aussie BBQ Lunch. With streams specifically designed for each trade, there was a great mix of professionals who were able to come and go based on their schedule and interests. There was also over 30 exhibitors in the trade area, so there was plenty to see and do between sessions.

Platinum Partners Reliance Worldwide Corporation and Victaulic Australia were key contributors in making this event the great success that it was. There was also immense support from Gold Partners Austworld and CBUS, as well as Silver Partners Enware and Halgan.

The program had a strong focus on topical industry issues with informative and innovative speakers. Thursday’s keynote speaker, Paul Spinks, discussed micro-managing, how to inspire change and how to provide a tool kit that brings about purpose, direction, retention and meaning into the workplace. Friday’s keynote speaker, Steve Keating, had a different message to share regarding the future direction of Brisbane as a leading city with the $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf Development.

Other key speakers included Lindsay Walker, Director of Strategic Policy (Plumbing Drainage Tribunals and Special Projects) with the Department of Housing and Public Works, with a discussion on the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018, as well as Mike Essery, Acting Director of Strategic Policy (Building) from the Department of Housing and Public Works, discussing Non-Conforming Building Products. The hydraulic stream also proved to be very topical with over 80 attendees wanting to hear about updates in the standards and the latest developments in Legionella.

We hope this event has advanced the knowledge and skills of all participants and made an impact on the future of the industry. So for now, that’s a wrap! Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this important industry event.
